Sunderland 0-1 Villa: Returning Benteke's impact hailed
Christian Benteke is close to hitting top form again after an encouraging display against Sunderland, according to his Villa team-mates.
Benteke boosted Paul Lambert's side by returning to action in the win at the Stadium of Light, having missed the previous three matches with a knee injury.
Ashley Westwood said the Belgian forward's presence gave the claret and blues an added spark against the Black Cats.
And he reckons it won't be long before the 22-year-old is firing on all cylinders again.
"It was great seeing him when you look up there and you've got someone to pass to," said Westwood.
"I thought he was back to his old self - throwing people out the way, holding the ball up, bringing other people into play.
"His goal will come and then he will be back to his best."
Gabby Agbonlahor was also delighted to see his strike partner back in action.
And he feels a fully fit Benteke is huge for Villa going into the second half of the campaign.
"He didn't get his goal at Sunderland but he had a lot of chances," added Agbonlahor.
"I think it was good to give him the break he had to get his injury sorted and he was flying.
"That is big news for the fans, the team and the club. Hopefully we can get him back to his best."
