Lambert: Now my team have experience and knowhow
Paul Lambert thinks his side now have the "experience and knowhow" to come through the challenging festive period.
Lambert saw Villa defeated 8-0 by Chelsea, 4-0 by Tottenham and 3-0 by Wigan aswell as going out of the Capital One Cup to Bradford and FA Cup to Millwall.
Villa boss Lambert says it was painful viewing but he believes the strides made since that frustrating period have been massive.
He thinks Villa are in a healthy place as they get set to face Stoke, Crystal Palace, Swansea, Sunderland and Sheff Utd in quick succession.
Asked if Villa were better now, he said: "There's no doubt. That's a no-brainer.
"We were getting tonked by Chelsea, Wigan, Tottenham and Bradford.
"Our goal difference was horrendous. Everything was going against us.
"Everyone was saying 'your players are too young'.
"It came four or five games in a hit. We kept going. Then all of a sudden they progressed.
"I actually don't think they got the credit they deserved for what they did.
"We changed a lot of things - we let a lot of experienced guys go. It kept on sliding. We had to stop the rot.
"People were thinking 'this could be a bridge too far'.
"But we kept winning the 'must wins.'
"You look at the results we've picked up this season against very, very good sides. We have more experience and knowhow now.
"They will still make mistakes. They are young but they are progressing with it.
"They have only been doing it a year and half. That's the magnitude of it.
"This season, we were 2-0 down to West Brom and pulled it back to 2-2. We wouldn't have done that last year."
