West Brom 2-2 Villa: Westwood - I'm getting my derby shirt framed!
Ashley Westwood was so thrilled with his decisive goal in the stirring Baggies comeback that he immediately elected to get his match shirt framed as a memento.
Elated Westwood was over the moon after finding the net for the first time in claret and blue at The Hawthorns.
The midfield ace admitted he elected to shoot in the split-second after receiving the ball 20 yards out, with 14 minutes remaining.
He was ecstatic to share some love with the away fans, although he joked that he'd forgotten how to celebrate when it dawned on him that he'd bagged the equaliser.
He told AVTV: "To get my first goal in a derby - in a game where we have come back to gain a point - is a really special feeling.
"The touch set me up and I just thought 'hit it.' Thankfully it went in the bottom corner.
"To celebrate in front of the Villa fans was fantastic. To be honest, I didn't really know what to do.
"But they have been tremendous with me since I have arrived at the football club. Not many would have known about me but they have given me time to settle and I'd like to thank them for that.
"It was the whole occasion which was special. To get the goal when we were 2-1 down to get us the point? That was a fantastic feeling.
"I have kept my shirt. That's going up in a frame."
Westwood - who praised the contribution of central partner Karim El Ahmadi - also hailed the mentality of the team to come charging back in the face of adversity.
He added: "I thought Karim was tremendous in the game. He showed real grit. He was closing down. That's something we have all been working on.
"But in the first half, we were disappointing. We let ourselves down.
"We had a good talk at half-time. We have a never-say-die attitude and that saw us through.
"We never know when we're beaten. That's a great thing to have in a team.
"The gaffer believes in his players 100% and that faith showed on the pitch.
"We managed to produce good performances when we really needed them last season. The second half here we needed a good display and we produced it."
