West Brom 2-2 Villa: Lambert - Westwood deserved his moment
Westwood smashed home the equaliser in the 2-2 result with the Baggies at The Hawthorns.
Lambert said the goal was only fair for a midfield performance of the highest quality.
Villa boss Lambert said the central star has a fine strike on him - as demonstrated with the late goal - but also brilliant pass stats too.
He said: "Ashley was excellent the whole night.
"Even in the first half I thought his passing was excellent.
"His goal was a terrific strike. He's got superb technique.
"He's a terrific footballer. He's a really clever footballer.
"He was worthy of that goal because I thought he was outstanding.
"It really was a great strike. It really was.
"He was worthy of that, as I said, because his performance was excellent.
"I'd love to know how many times he gives the ball away. It can't be many.
"He is a terrific passer and a terrific striker of a ball."
Lambert also praised Leandro Bacuna for the way he bounced back after being at fault for Shane Long's second goal, a finish which put Albion in the ascendancy at 2-0.
He added: "There was no option for him when he was out there. You have to get it going. And to be fair, he did.
"It's his first time in Britain and he's been brilliant for us.
"I thought his second half was excellent. I really did.
"He started doing what he had been doing in the previous games.
"It can happen with young players, making mistakes, especially in games of this magnitude. It can rock them a bit. But you have to give him credit."
