Villa v Everton stats: Benteke/Agbonlahor the key figures

Villa are hoping to get the better of Everton, with whom they have fought countless close encounters. WhoScored.com, who offer the largest online database for detailed football statistics, tell us why the hosts will be confident of having the firepower to get a result against Roberto Martinez's impressive outfit this weekend.

Clashes between Villa and Everton have become familiar with fans of both clubs, with the two founder members of the Football League meeting for the 215th time - making this the most played fixture in English football history.

While their meetings have become a tradition, the outcome in the majority of matches between the two has been equally common, with goals seemingly assured whenever the teams come to blows.

In 11 of the last 12 encounters between Villa and Everton, both sides have been on the scoresheet, with nine of the last 13 league meetings ending in a score draw.

Meanwhile, you have to go all the way back to 2004 to find the last game in which the Toffees kept a clean sheet in this match-up.

The teams have met 19 times since then, so Villa will rightly feel confident that they can continue that run, with the home side having welcomed back Christian Benteke to first-team action in the previous game.

The fact that the Belgian netted twice in the last fixture against Everton will only give the side more confidence.

Benteke

The cause for optimism in attack doesn't end there, with Gabby Agbonlahor hoping to build on an impressive record against the Merseysiders.

Having celebrated his birthday a few short weeks ago, the 27-year old is by far and away the longest serving player at the club and will have fond memories of netting his first ever senior goal back in 2006 against this weekend's opponents.

Since then he's gone on to score in six more league encounters against Everton, including the most recent of those in February of this year, with a tally of seven goals versus the Toffees representing his best figure against any club in his career.

The lifelong Villan will be more than happy to turn provider again, however, with no players winning more penalties and picking up more assists combined than the forward this term (4).

That brings us back nicely to the man who is most likely to profit from Agbonlahor's unselfish endeavours.

Benteke's introduction in the second half against Tottenham saw Villa Park erupt and there was an immediate impact in the play on the field.

In his half an hour of action, the striker mustered three shots at goal and won seven of eight aerial duels to put the frighteners up the Spurs backline.

Although Paul Lambert's side went on to concede against the run of play, it was clear that their top scorer was up for the fight straight away and a week's worth of training will see him raring to go against Everton.

The 22-year old scored with both of his shots on target against Everton last season and his prolificacy in front of goal has continued from the end of the previous campaign to this.

Of all strikers to attempt at least 10 shots at goal, only Sergio Aguero has been more accurate than Benteke (57.1%), and it's only the Argentinean that can trump the Villa man's 28.6% conversion rate.

The latter figure is one that he shares with compatriot Romelu Lukaku - and all eyes are likely to be on the burly Belgians at either end of the field in a game that should guarantee plenty of goalmouth action.
