Delph adopting 'back-to-basics' approach after Spurs defeat

Harrison

Fabian Delph says Villa will go "back to the drawing board" in a bid to come back stronger from the Tottenham defeat.

Delph feels the claret and blues can be pleased with their work ethic in the 2-0 loss to Andre Villas-Boas' team.

But the midfielder and his team-mates were left ruing a couple of mistakes that allowed Spurs to score the two crucial goals.

Delph believes Villa will bounce back strongly against Everton on Saturday if they adopt a back-to-basics approach.

"I thought we worked hard - 100 per cent as usual - but maybe there were little mistakes," he said.

"We will go back to the drawing board and look at what we've done wrong and we'll come back next week hopefully a bit stronger.

"I think we were pushing to get something out of the game.

"But they saw the game out. Credit to them, they are a good team and they could be up there by the end of the season. But we fought and we gave 100 per cent.

"I think personally I got into a few positions where I should have done better with some of the through balls.

"It is something I am disappointed about but hopefully I'll correct it in the next game."

Delph admits the players were lifted by the return of top scorer Christian Benteke.

The Belgian's introduction as a second-half substitute coincided with Villa's best spell of the match.

"It was great to see him back," added Delph.

"He loves football, he loves the club and he is great to play with.

"He is always available - as is Kozak - and whoever of the strikers come in and play they all give 100%. But it is great to see Christian back."
