Lambert: Villa lads can go to World Cup - if they fly me over!

Brown

Paul Lambert admits he'd be thrilled to see several of his Three Lions head off to Brazil with England - as long as they fly him over and buy him some tickets!

Lambert knows he has some quality players in his ranks who could force their way into Roy Hodgson's squad for the 2014 tournament, held in South America.

Gabby Agbonlahor, Fabian Delph and Ashley Westwood have been bang in form aswell as Matt Lowton who shot to fame in the previous campaign with a stirring season.

Lambert accepts that Hodgson will stay loyal to the players who qualified for the showpiece event with their win over Poland at Wembley in the finale of Group H.

But he knows from experience that several dark horses emerge on the eve of the selection process.

Lambert hopes his star names can be involved.

He said: "I think it's great for the Premier League that England qualified because it's important.

"It's good for the manager and the players and it may be the last chance for some of the lads to play in a World Cup, which is great.

"There's unfair criticism at times but the bottom line is they have qualified.

"The lads that are in contention will hopefully stay fit and healthy and will go. For their countries it's great and a great honour to go to the World Cup, especially in Brazil which I think will be a great tournament.

"If the lads stay fit and healthy and give me a ticket for the games, I'm quite happy. And my flights - that's the least they can do!

"There's one or two who are playing really well. You tend to find the ones who got you there will form the majority of the squad. But you do get one or two who do surface from somewhere. If they can do it, then great.

"You can get injuries between now and the end of the season. Things can happen. You've just got to hope that your players are on their game and they get looked at or have an opportunity.

"It's a big season for every English player in terms of getting to this World Cup."
