Villa v Tottenham injury news: Boss waiting on Benteke fitness
Benteke - who has been nursing a hip flexor injury since September 21 - was an unused sub for Tuesday night's clash in Brussels having come through two training sessions with his national squad.
Villa's medical team have kept in close contact with their Belgian counterparts since the decision to call the 22-year-old up for the World Cup qualifying double-header.
Now Lambert is hoping Benteke will be fit enough for the Spurs encounter.
"He'll come back and will know himself how he's feeling," said the Villa boss.
"All I know is he was on the bench last night, trained for a couple of days and hadn't had any reaction. That might change when he gets back - we'll wait and see.
"I trusted Christian to be honest, which he is. That's all you can do - trust somebody to do the right thing.
"Obviously he didn't play against Croatia and he was on the bench last night. I trusted him."
It is a similar story for Villa's other international stars, with Lambert waiting to assess their fitness when they return to Bodymoor Heath.
"They're not back yet," the manager added.
"There's nine of them away so we'll get reports this morning and see how they are."
