Lambert on formations: We have the personnel to adapt
Paul Lambert reckons Villa's new-found squad depth will allow them to adopt a flexible approach to games.
Lambert reverted back to a 4-3-3 formation at Hull on Saturday having switched to 3-5-2 in the victory over title-chasing Manchester City.
The Villa boss increased his options over the summer by bringing seven new signings to the club.
And he believes his team are now capable of adapting to different systems.
"The beauty of it is they can adapt," said the manager.
"The lads know 3-5-2. They played it last year, so they know how to do it.
"The good thing is we can change different ways of playing and different personnel.
"They can adapt to whatever we ask them to do.
"It all depends on who we're playing against and what players are fit, but we can try to get a team to win. They did it last year in games.
"They are systems that we did last season. We can adapt. I played three at the back against Manchester City last week.
"Even though it was the first time this season against Manchester City they did exceptionally well and it was pleasing.
"Then we changed it against Hull. But you give them the systems and they adapt. I wouldn't say 4-3-3 set in stone."
