Villa 3-2 Man City: Bacuna discusses free-kick ecstasy
Leandro Bacuna was brimming with confidence when he lined up his game-changing free-kick against Man City - but still felt relieved to see it go in.
Bacuna held his nerve to beat England keeper Joe Hart with a stunning effort from outside the box to make it 2-2 in Saturday's thrilling encounter.
It set Villa up to go on and record a memorable victory over much-fancied City.
Bacuna reckons he was quietly confident when stepping up to take the kick, although he knew there was huge pressure on his shoulders.
"It was about 20 yards out and I was standing behind it with a lot of confidence," said the Dutchman.
"I felt this was my chance and a chance for the team, so I knew if I made this one it would be really important. It was a relief!
"It was my first goal in the Premier League so I am really excited."
Bacuna says Villa showed once again that they are capable of stepping up against the elite.
The claret and blues have already beaten City's title rivals Arsenal this term before being edged out in tight games by Chelsea and Liverpool.
"It was a really difficult game but we showed we can step up," the former Groningen ace added.
"They were winning 1-0 but we showed that we can come back. We did a decent job.
"The team have stepped up to the game and showed themselves and it is really good for our confidence.
"We need to keep doing what we are doing at the moment and I think we will do great."
