Villa 3-2 Man City verdict: Lambert - Villa Park was so vibrant
Paul Lambert hailed the impact of the fans after the famous 3-2 win over Man City.
Villa twice came from behind to see off one of the favourites for the Barclays Premier League and Champions League on a rip-roaring afternoon in B6.
Lambert was rightly proud of his players but he also praised the supporters for cheering the team on to victory.
He said: "It was a massive win. It was a big win, three points for us. I was delighted to win.
"I have great belief in the team to go out and create.
"The atmosphere here helps you generate those attacks.
"The Holte End was absolutely brilliant. They were on it. But the whole stadium was vibrant.
"It's a fabulous achievement against Man City because of the magnitude of the club and the players they have.
"What was really pleasing was we came back twice against them.
"I thought Andreas Weimann and Libor Kozak in the second half were an absolute handful. But it's not just those boys, the midfield worked ever so hard, the three lads at the back were excellent, the wing-backs were great. Collectively as a group, every one of them was excellent.
"The lads might get beaten in certain games but one thing I would always say is that they give you absolutely everything in their bodies. I am really proud of them.
"The start we have had had been really, really tough with the fixtures that have been thrown at us but I am really, really proud of them.
"I knew they had a lot of possession in the first half but Brad didn't really have a save as such.
"Man City had possession, yes. But there are not many times teams will have the ball against Man City.
"They are one of the favourites to win the Premier League and they are one of the teams who could win the Champions League. That shows the magnitude of the result.
"They might have rested a few for the Bayern Munich game but you look at their side and it was littered with top, top players."
Lambert changed formation for this encounter, playing three at the back.
He continued: "The three of them did it last year. It wasn't new to them. They have done it.
"Man City in the middle of the pitch can make it a long afternoon.
"I though they worked really hard. I am delighted with the group. They were excellent."
Lambert was naturally thrilled with the result but he sounded a note of caution post-match.
He added: "You can't get caught up in it. You have to move on. You can't live on your past glories. You carry on.
"That's important. You don't dwell. You enjoy, yes. But you go into work and you're ready to go again."
