Villa v Newcastle: Lambert excited by Kozak potential
Paul Lambert has backed Libor Kozak to be a big presence in Villa's front line as the 6ft 4in striker gets set for his potential debut this weekend.
The deadline day signing from Lazio goes in to Saturday's clash against Newcastle high on confidence after netting for the Czech Republic against Italy in midweek.
And Lambert believes Kozak is more than capable of delivering goals in the Barclays Premier League.
The 24-year-old finished top of the charts in last year's Europa League with 10 goals from 11 games.
"Libor's confidence is really high at the minute after scoring in midweek," said Lambert.
"He has fitted in to the group really well. It will take him one or two weeks to get to know everybody but he is a really good player.
"The thing with him is he can score goals. He has played in a really powerful league in Serie A.
"He didn't get many chances but if you look at his goal ratio in the Europa League, it was unbelievable.
"He certainly knows where the goal is and he has hit a bit of form for the Czech Republic.
"He scored a brilliant goal the other night against Italy in a high pressure game so I don't have any worries about him at all."
Lambert is thrilled with the striking options at his disposal after adding Kozak and Nicklas Helenius to the squad this term.
But he stressed Kozak is more than just a back-up forward for top scorer Christian Benteke.
"We need someone up there to help Christian at certain times and he will do that for us," the manager added.
"I've got options there - I can play the two of them up together. He's a number nine, which I think we've needed as well."
