Villa v Newcastle: Bacuna hails intensity ahead of Toon clash
Leandro Bacuna has urged his team-mates to take their training ground intensity into the clash against Newcastle.
Villa return to action after a two-and-a-half week hiatus when the Magpies arrive in B6 on Saturday.
Bacuna reckons the high tempo of this week's training sessions at Bodymoor Heath shows just how much the squad are raring to go for the showdown with Alan Pardew's team.
"If you look at the training everyone is looking really sharp," said the Dutchman.
"In the next game against Newcastle we have to get up and be ready and try and take the three points.
"We have had a couple of weeks without playing but now we are all sharp and now we're just excited for the game.
"It is a new game for me, as is every other game. We need to show ourselves and step up for the game."
Bacuna believes Villa will carry forward plenty of confidence from the tough early-season triple against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Nevertheless, the 22-year-old felt Paul Lambert's team were unlucky not to pick up more than three points.
"We did a really good job," he said. "We worked hard and we were unlucky a couple of times.
"I think we deserved better but to get three points from these tough games was good.
"We can take confidence from those three games and keep going and show ourselves.
"It was really nice to be involved and it was great for the team to make a really good impression."
The Newcastle game will bring Bacuna up against fellow Dutchman Vurnon Anita - a player he has faced on several occasions in the Eredivisie.
"I've played against Anita who used to be at Ajax," added Bacuna.
"I've faced him a few times in the Dutch league and I know him well because he is my nationality.
"He is a good guy and it will be good to play against him.
"I haven't spoken to him yet but I will do soon."
