Store chief Greenfield: Benteke online shirt orders "outrageous"
Merchandising chief John Greenfield says the amount of Christian Benteke No.20 shirts sold online in the aftermath of his goal-laden performances against Arsenal and Chelsea have been "outrageous."
Hero Benteke bagged a brace in the 3-1 win at The Emirates and scored again in the unfortunate 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge.
Greenfield insists the orders for Benteke have been unprecedented both in terms of numbers and locations.
Villa's in-house retail operation has sent Benteke shirts to places as far afield as Los Angeles, Florida, New York, Hong Kong, Toronto, Melbourne, Adelaide, Germany, Belgium, Iceland and Denmark to name but a few in the past week.
In fact, the merchandising department has been forced to order new equipment to cater for the demand of lettered and numbered player shirts.
Greenfield said: "As most people know, we launched our online store a few months ago. Custom has been excellent. We have been delighted.
"But even we were taken aback with the volume of orders for Benteke.
"He's clearly a fan favourite after his exploits last time out as well as the two games this week.
"But the interest generated across the world for our merchandise - home and away shirts - has been unprecedented.
"There have been good sales figures for the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor, Andreas Weimann and Jores Okore too but nothing to the scale worldwide of Benteke. He's clearly a global hit with our fans."
