Lambert: We will have a real high-energy approach
Paul Lambert hopes opposition teams feel the full force of his side's high-energy approach.
Lambert was pleased with the way his claret and blues got about the pitch in the last campaign, with the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor, Andi Weimann, Fabian Delph and Matt Lowton showing drive and dynamism in all areas.
Lambert feels new signings Aleksandar Tonev, Leandro Bacuna and Antonio Luna will add to that vitality in his young, emerging team.
He said: "Even last year I thought that there were goals there in the team. We've tried to enhance it.
"We're trying to build something here and it's not going to happen overnight, I know that. But what we've done is bring in people who have got legs.
"We've got legs in the side. That's important in modern day football and the way we play is a high intensity game.
"You need players who can do that and over pre-season the players have been excellent.
"We've progressed. That's all you can ask for. You can certainly hear the crowd, they are right behind it. They can see what's happening, which is always a big barometer of how far you have come.
"They can see the team is full of energy.
"Tonev has speed. He has not played much at all. It was a big ask for him to come in on Saturday but I was delighted with his contribution.
"He is very gifted with both feet. He is only a young lad coming here and he's got to learn the culture as well. But he's done fine."
Lambert sees six of his regular senior players head off on international duty this week - Andi Weimann, Brad Guzan, Aleksandar Tonev, Ron Vlaar, Christian Benteke and Ciaran Clark.
He will assess them when they return before making his mind up on his final line-up against Arsenal on Saturday.
He added: "I'll wait and see. They have all got to go with their national teams and we have to see how they all come back. Hopefully they'll all come back fit."
