Express and Star: Aston Villa club-record signing Darren Bent was today closer to the exit after losing his squad number to Nicklas Helenius. The frozen-out striker has lost his No 9 shirt to the Danish new-boy and has been handed No 39.

Sky Sports: Newcastle must fend off interest from at least two other clubs if they are going to sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis. Pardew has enquired about Gomis but is yet to table an offer and Aston Villa, Swansea and Cardiff have also been linked with the French international.

Sporting Life: Chelsea's Barclays Premier League match at home to Aston Villa has been brought forward due to the Londoners' involvement in the UEFA Super Cup, the Premier League has confirmed. Europa League champions Chelsea were scheduled to take on Villa on Saturday, August 31, but now the match will be played 10 days earlier on August 21 as the Blues tackle Bayern Munich in Prague on Friday, August 30.

Sky Sports: Chelsea's Premier League match with Aston Villa has been brought forward due to the Londoners' involvement in the UEFA Super Cup. The Europa League winners were due to face Paul Lambert's Villa on Saturday 31 August, but now the match will be played 10 days earlier.

ClubCall: Charles N'Zogbia is reportedly set to be one big-name casualty in Paul Lambert's summer squad rebuilding job at Aston Villa. The 27-year-old France international is thought to be one of a host of current first-team squad members who will be made available to leave Villa Park before the current transfer window slams shut on September 2.

ClubCall: Chief executive Paul Faulkner has hailed Aston Villa's summer business to date but claims 'there's a lot more work to do'. Faulkner has spoken out after the club handed Villa boss Paul Lambert the funds to bring in new signings, Aleksandar Tonev, Leandro Bacuna, Jores Okore, Nicklas Helenius, Antonio Luna and Jed Steer.
