Tamworth 3-2 Villa U21: Youngsters edged out by late strike
Gordon Cowans' team suffered their first defeat of the new campaign despite a third strike in as many games for teenage hotshot Jerell Sellars.
It was the away side who took the lead when Tamworth keeper Cameron Belford failed to control a backpass from Tony Capaldi and the ball rolled into an empty net.
The Lambs levelled on 29 minutes when former Fulham striker Richard Peniket tapped home Justin Richards' cross-shot.
Villa regained the advantage just four minutes in to the second half when Sellars scored with a clever left-foot flick inside the area.
Around 17 minutes from time, Tom Eckersley headed home the equaliser for Tamworth.
The hosts had the chance to take the lead soon after Courtney Wildin was adjudged to have fouled Kayne Woolery but Benjamin Siegrist brilliantly saved Richard's spot-kick.
However, Peniket had the final say by scoring with a neat finish on 81 minutes.
Meanwhile, Villa U18s began their pre-season with a 2-2 draw against Queens Park Rangers at Bodymoor Heath.
Rory Hale and Rushain Hepburn-Murphy got the goals for Tony McAndrew's team.
VILLA: Watkins [Siegrist], Lyden, Bateman, Toner, Kinsella [Abdo], Calder, Sellars [O'Brien], Stieber [Wildin], T Strain, Cowans [Zazrivec], Robinson.
