Matt Lowton finished his debut campaign for Villa in style.

Although the full-back's chances of ending the term as an ever-present in the league were dashed by an injury sustained in the first half at Norwich, there were still plenty of golden moments.

He helped Villa to crucial wins over West Ham, Reading and QPR as Paul Lambert's team built up some momentum to head into the end-of-season run-in.

Then came THAT goal against Stoke City.

Just as the Potters thought they had snatched a point at the Britannia, Lowton brilliantly controlled a clearance on his chest before unleashing an unstoppable looping volley from around 30 yards.

It was outstanding both in its quality and its importance to Villa's campaign.

Arguably Lowton's best all-round performance in a claret and blue shirt came in the 6-1 demolition of Sunderland, with Paul Lambert hailing him as "man of the match by absolute miles."

It's just a shame the former Sheffield United man was ruled out of the penultimate game against Chelsea, as injury robbed him of an unblemished top-flight appearance record.
