Delph: Goalscoring ace Benteke is a natural monster!
Fabian Delph has backed "natural monster" Christian Benteke to continue putting the frighteners on top-flight defences.
Hat-trick hero Benteke produced a devastating display in Monday's 6-1 win over Sunderland to take his goal tally for the season to 22.
And Delph was amazed by the Belgian striker's incredible show of strength, power and precision - particularly for his towering header to make it 4-1.
"I think he is an absolute monster," said Delph.
"Defenders must come up against this boy and think 'he is 22, let's try rough him up'. Every centre-back who has tried it has failed.
"Chris Samba gave him a game recently. But his header against Sunderland - I think his head was above the crossbar!
"It was frightening. I saw him jump. I thought 'he has wings'. He has dragged us through so many games.
"He is a natural monster. Honestly, he doesn't do any upper bodywork whatsoever. He works on his core strength. He works on his legs. He is naturally like that."
Delph believes Barclays Premier League safety is within Villa's grasp - especially with Benteke giving opposition defenders nightmares.
"He looks like he could get more," said the former Leeds midfielder.
"We have three games to go and I could put a bet on him to score at least another three or four."
Delph felt Benteke would have been a worthy winner of the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
The 22-year-old was pipped to the gong by Tottenham's Gareth Bale.
"I was quite surprised he didn't get young player of the season," added Delph.
"I personally think he should have won. Obviously he is my pal and I am a bit biased towards him.
"But even from the outside, you would have thought he would be up there, if not getting it, then very close."
