Villa 6-1 Sunderland: Vlaar - Now let's complete our survival mission
Ron Vlaar revelled in Villa's stunning win over Sunderland - and urged his team-mates to complete their top-flight survival mission.
Vlaar scored the opening goal in the 6-1 demolition of the Black Cats as the boys in claret and blue climbed five points clear of the relegation zone.
It means Paul Lambert's team will reach the magical 40-point mark if they can win at Norwich on Saturday.
Skipper Vlaar said: "It's not over yet, we want to win every game.
"We must carry on. Our next game is on Saturday, we want to win that as well and we could do great things as we have today. 6-1 is very good for us.
"We've had to work hard for this because at the end of last year we conceded a lot of goals.
"But you see tonight all the strikers have done well, Christian scored, Gabby scored, Andreas scored so it's great for the confidence."
Vlaar admits he could sense the crowd urging him to shoot when he received possession 30 yards from goal.
The Dutchman opened his account for the club with a stunning low drive past Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet.
"I heard the crowd shouting for me to shoot and I had to go for it on the wet pitch because my touch was good," he said.
"Luckily it went in so that was very good for us."
Vlaar paid tribute to hat-trick hero Benteke, who took his tally to 22 in all competitions this season.
"I don't think I have to say what he's done for us this season," the captain added.
"He's scored so many goals, he's so strong, and we can always give the ball to him. He's very important to us."
