Villa 6-1 Sunderland: Lambert - The lads were absolutely outstanding
Paul Lambert paid tribute to his team for the way they turned on the style in the emphatic win over Sunderland.
Lambert called his players "absolutely outstanding" for their six-star performance against the Black Cats.
The boss was especially pleased in the way they didn't ease up after guaranteeing the win in the second half.
He also hailed the fans for the way they screamed the team on during an unforgettable night in B6.
He said: "I am delighted to win, first and foremost. The most important thing was to win the game.
"The way we played, I thought we were absolutely outstanding right from the off. I thought we were fantastic.
"It was a high pressure game. The stadium was rocking and the crowd was fantastic. The way we played was outstanding.
"The good thing about half-time was that we had the lead. That's the big thing.
"Shooting into that Holte End can be a magnet at times. They draw the ball in.
"If you get that on your side and you keep them pressing, the crowd can definitely help them.
"I always think you can judge by a crowd how the team is performing. I thought the stadium was rocking.
"The important thing was not sitting back and thinking the job was done.
"Sunderland were bang on form, with a new manager, they had won two games. They came here with a good feeling. The important thing for us was to keep playing the way we had been.
"You look at our form since the turn of the year, we have been playing extremely well.
"I am proud of the way the team have never complained, never got their heads down, they have just got on with it. They are young lads and they are getting better and better every time.
"I think the crowd have identified with it. They are bouncing off each other, which is fantastic."
Christian Benteke obviously gained the plaudits after his hat-trick hero performance - and Lambert was thrilled with his man mountain.
The manager also hailed the display of Matt Lowton, who was immense at right-back.
He added: "He got man of the match and scored a hat-trick. The big guy has been absolutely brilliant for us right from the off.
"The fans love him. To be fair, I can't speak highly enough of him.
"As long as he keeps his feet on the ground and keeps hungry, he can have a big career.
"People tend to forget he's only 22-years-old.
"I just saw his goal from the corner. He actually jumped the height of the crossbar. He has been excellent.
"I thought we needed a striker like that - a big lad. Everyone can see his technique for a big lad is fabulous. The good thing is he's played a lot of games for Genk, he's Belgium's main target player, he is playing fantastic for us.
"For someone of 22 with the amount of games under his belt and high-pressure games, he's got a big, big career in front of him.
"But I thought Matt Lowton was the best player by a mile, an absolute mile, he was fantastic.
"When you have a front three of Weimann, Agbonlahor and Benteke then you have an absolute threat.
"Westwood has the art of never giving it away, Delph gives you everything he's got and Sylla coming in was fantastic."
