Lambert: I'm backing Villa and Dortmund to come out on top
Paul Lambert several months ago tipped Villa to stay up and Dortmund to win the Champions League - and he's sticking to that prediction.
Lambert spoke of a fierce belief that his emerging side would retain their Barclays Premier League status and a steadfast faith that his former club would win football's ultimate domestic prize.
When questioned again in his pre-match press conference, Lambert stuck to his guns with both forecasts.
He said: "I think if Dortmund get through this one they've got a fantastic chance to do it.
"And ourselves, I've always believed we would be fine.
"There's three points in it. If we win on Monday, we know it's back to that level game again.
"That just shows how quick it can turn if we win.
"The form at this minute is pretty good so we go into that game trying to win it.
"We are at home. You'd rather be at home than away. You'll have the crowd behind you, everything behind you.
"The thing is we are playing well enough and we are creating chances. It would be different if we went into the game not playing well and not creating.
"I am delighted that my old club are nearly there in the Champions League.
"I'd love to see them do it again especially at Wembley and they could get Bayern.
"But the thing about Madrid and Barcelona, you can never write them off.
"Bayern and Dortmund have given themselves a right good chance to get through, though.
"German football has always been strong, always. I'm absolutely delighted that Dortmund are doing great.
"There are still one or two people at the club I still speak to which is nice. They will know they are not through yet. They are halfway there.
"It's a great opportunity to do it and if Bayern Munich do get through and it's an all-German final it'll be something."
