Villa Ladies set to compete in Women's Super League
The adjudication process for the new and expanded WSL is in its final stages and, subject to The FA WSL project team working with those clubs selected to finalise the terms and conditions of the agreements, Villa Ladies will proudly take up its place for 2014.
Villa Ladies have been selected for FA WSL2, the second tier of the competition, along with nine other teams.
"This is a tremendous accolade for the Club and one we are very proud of," said Villa Chief Executive Paul Faulkner.
"At the heart of who we are as a Club is the 'one club, one family' ethos and having Villa Ladies competing in the Women's Super League is a good addition to this.
"From our Academy's underage teams through the development squad and, ultimately, to first team level, there is a common philosophy and our place in the community is a central aspect of this philosophy.
"It is right that we have a ladies team that will compete at the highest level. We want our fan-base to be connected to the Club in all its facets and the Ladies team will play their part.
"In a few weeks time they will actually compete in the League Cup final and this is a great boost ahead of their participation in that game.
"It is also testament to the hard work and endeavours of Joe Hunt, the Ladies team manager, coach Karl Fellows, and Martin Harrison, secretary of the Ladies team, who have led the effort to ensure that Villa Ladies achieve their goal of competing in the Women's Super League from 2014."
Villa Ladies was established officially in 1996.
In the years since they have qualified for the FA Women's Premier League Cup final on two occasions, including this season where they will play Leeds United Ladies on May 5.
The Ladies achieved their highest ever finish last season, finishing third in the FA Women's Premier League behind reigning League Cup holders Sunderland and cup final opponents Leeds.
