Lambert: Our confidence is "well intact" ahead of final run-in

Brown

Paul Lambert says the confidence of his team is "well intact" despite the loss to Man Utd.

Lambert was frustrated to see his team go three-down in thirty-three minutes at Old Trafford.

But he says the way the players dug in after the break has given everyone of claret and blue persuasion plenty of heart heading into the final four games.

He is adamant his side are full of belief in their survival bid.

He said: "I have to give the team a lot of credit. We created chances at Old Trafford. We looked threatening.

"In the second half we played really well. We got hold of the ball. We had one or two chances - Andi off the line, Christian's shot and Karim's shot.

"It wasn't as if we went there and didn't get a sniff at the goal. I have to give the team credit for that.

"But you're up against a team where the finish for the second goal was extraordinary.

"Going by some people at Man Utd that was the best they have played since Real Madrid."

Asked whether there was damage to morale following the loss, he continued: "No there's not. I knew that by the way they played in the second half. I knew they were fine.

"I was disappointed to lose a game. But they came off the pitch and knew they'd done alright.

"Yes we'd lost but what happened at Chelsea was not evident.

"Our form has been very good of late. Manchester United, regardless of them going for the title or not, it was always going to be really, really tough.

"It doesn't matter who you are - better teams than us like Madrid - everybody who goes there, not many go there and take them on because of the calibre of players they have.

"Our confidence is still well intact after the other night.

"We are playing well. We have been on a good little run.

"We have been beaten by the champions. But it's doesn't matter when you go to Old Trafford. It's always going to be a tough game. We had chances. When you look back, we had good chances.

"If Benteke scores at 1-0, who knows? It might not have made a difference to the result but it would have made it more interesting. In the second half, we gave as good as we got."
