Man Utd v Villa stats: Guzan the key man for Red Devils clash
Villa will derive much hope ahead of Man Utd at Old Trafford from their narrow defeat to the Red Devils on home soil earlier this season.
The game between the two sides was a real thriller with Villa opening up a two-goal lead courtesy of Andi Weimann before a second-half comeback saw the visitors claim a 3-2 win.
Villa can take encouragement from that encounter and also from the fact that their away form has been impressive this term.
Villa are one of only two teams - along with Tottenham - to have picked up as many points on the road as they have at home this season.
Indeed, only the top seven teams have picked up more points away from home than Paul Lambert's emerging side .
They'll be hoping to build on a point picked up last time out against Fulham too, of course.
One man who had a quiet afternoon in that clash was shot-stopper Brad Guzan, with the visitors failing to muster a single shot on target.
It was the third time an opponent had failed to test the USA ace this season - Stoke and Sunderland previously.
That figure is also matched by Man Utd goalkeeper David De Gea this season.
It's fair to say 28-year-old Guzan is likely to be busier at Old Trafford tonight, but Villa's last line of defence has been in exceptional form throughout the campaign.
Outstanding saves against the likes of QPR and Liverpool earned him the club's player of the month award for March and he is leading the way in the player of the year poll too.
The stats certainly suggest that such an honour would be merited after a real breakthrough campaign.
Only three keepers have made more saves in the Premier League this season than Guzan, with 73 of those stops coming from efforts inside the box.
The percentage of saves that he has made from shots inside the area [68.2%] is the highest in the division, with his reflexes second to none.
Guzan's tally of 85 successful high claims from crosses is another league high and a full 17 more than any other goalkeeper in the division.
While his command of the area is a strength, Guzan's distribution has also been superb at times, taking more accurate goal kicks than any other keeper.
With the second most punched clearances and joint most smothers at opposition feet this season, it's clear that Villa are in safe hands.
Guzan will need to be at his best tonight but if there's one man Lambert can rely on for a top performance in Manchester it is his current No.1.
