Villa v Fulham: Lambert - Humble Weimann becoming a fan favourite
Weimann burst on to the Barclays Premier League scene just over 12 months ago with a dramatic stoppage-time winner to give Villa a priceless win over the Cottagers.
Since then, the 21-year-old's stock has continued to rise and he is now a regular in the claret and blues starting line-up.
Weimann, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions this term, has also become a favourite among the Villa Park faithful.
Lambert reckons the academy graduate's humble nature allied to his impressive work rate have helped him become a success.
"That's one thing about Andi, no matter what he does with his career - how good he goes to become, or what he wins, what he makes - what you see now is what I think Andi Weimann will be like when he finishes playing," said Lambert.
"You look at the crowd with him as well. The crowd love him. When you see that sort of thing, the crowd identify because he's been through the ranks."
Lambert has been delighted with the way Weimann has seized his opportunities in his first full season in the senior ranks.
And he says the Vienna-born hotshot is enjoying every minute of his time on the top-flight stage.
"I think when you see somebody like that the thing that strikes you is his work rate," the boss added.
"If you concentrate on people's strengths and not be negative all the time then hopefully you'll get an extra percentage out of them and I think that's what's happened. We've got the best out of him.
"I think he's really enjoyed his football. He's broken into the international team as well and that's a great thing for him.
"He's playing almost every week here. It's his first real throw of the dice at this level. That's a big thing.
"I think people think Andi's been playing for years."
