Stoke 1-3 Villa: Lambert - Lowton deserves glory goal
Paul Lambert said there wasn't a player more deserving of a Roy of the Rovers moment than Matt Lowton.
Lowton thumped home what, in effect, was the vital moment of the Stoke game, giving Villa the lead from which they emerged victorious 3-1.
It has been Christian Benteke, Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann who have taken the goal praise for much of the season but it was Lowton post-Potters.
Lambert admitted it was well deserved for the former Sheffield United, who hasn't been a moment's trouble since moving in the summer.
He said: "Matt has been outstanding throughout the season. He has been first-class.
"He's a really humble kid, a top lad and a good pro.
"He tries to do everything in the right way and he's still developing as a footballer.
"His performances have been great for us.
"He was low profile when he came in. You give them the opportunity. That's what we've always tried to do. I've always tried to get that type of lad in.
"He's not the finished article but he's certainly playing really, really well and if he carries on the way he's going he's going to have a great career."
Lowton has played every minute of every game in the Barclays Premier League for Villa and Lambert puts that down to a consistent streak from the right-back.
He added: "It is quite rare. The intensity is quite high. The thing with Matty is you know what you are going to get. That's the beauty about it.
"You know the consistency will be there and that it will be the same level. It's the same with Ashley Westwood."
