Stoke 1-3 Villa player picture focus: Christian Benteke

Paul Lambert joked after the Stoke win that he would be checking what Christian Benteke eats after seeing him bag another glorious goal.

Benteke has been a revelation in claret and blue so far this term and took his tally to fifteen in the league and nineteen in all competitions with his late Potters effort.

Fans will be looking on eagerly to see if he can score the five goals in six games needed to be the first player since Peter Withe in 1980-81 to bag twenty goals in the top-flight.

There's another target available to him, of course.

That is Juan Pablo Angel's twenty-three in all competitions from 2003-04.

Lambert won't be too bothered by these statistics.

The boss will just be eager the big man keeps up his form, fitness and flair for goals in the closing weeks of the term, as Villa eye safety.

He's certainly been thrilled with Benteke's impact and believes the world is his oyster if he keeps his feet firmly on the ground.

He said post-match at the Britannia: "I'd like to know what he eats in the morning because he keeps scoring.

"The big guy has been fantastic.

"He's a lovely kid too, a really top lad. If he keeps that humbleness and performs the way he is, he can be anything he wants.

"The big guy has just been terrific. He played for Genk before the season started. He has played every game for the national team. And then he has played for us. He's been absolutely fantastic."
