Lambert: Agbonlahor will be huge asset for season finale
Gabby Agbonlahor will be a huge asset for Villa in the season finale.
That's the view of boss Paul Lambert who insists that Agbonlahor will create and score goals in the final seven games of this term.
Lambert has been impressed with what he's seen of the fab forward since joining Villa as manager in August.
He was startled by Agbonlahor's epic pace and ability to create havoc in opposition defences with his turn of pace.
But Lambert has been thrilled to see Agbonlahor add goals to his game since scoring against West Brom in January.
He's hit four goals in that period and Lambert believes there's more to come from Agbonlahor as the campaign comes to a conclusion.
He said: "I think Gabby has been excellent. He is loving his football at the minute, is scoring quite regularly at the moment - and when Gabby gets a run at you, there are not many people going to catch him.
"He is playing extremely well at the minute and if we can keep him, Charles, Christian and Andi fit, we've got loads of options there upfront.
"The one thing that was lacking in his game was goals. His stats from that point of view up to the West Brom game weren't great.
"But he has added goals and that's why he is enjoying it. He looks really sharp in training.
"What he does bring is genuine pace to the game and a threat.
"If you have pace as a footballer, it's a huge asset. But you've got to have something else to go with that.
"This year, he has added goals to his game which is major thing for him and us.
"He hadn't hardly scored in a year which is a long time for someone of his ability.
"In the last few months he has added goals and that is why he is enjoying his football even more.
"He is a good lad. He has been brilliant for Acorns, a major ambassador for that which speaks volumes for his character. He has been great for me since I have been here."
