Match report: Villa U21s 3-1 Sunderland U21s

Villa U21s defeated Sunderland U21s 3-1, thanks to a Daniel Johnson brace and a Courtney Cameron goal.

Just before the U19s lifted the NextGen Series title in Lake Como, Gordon Cowans's development team saw off the Black Cats at Hinckley.

The young Black Cats were ahead early on in this clash in wintry conditions when Jordan Laidler picked out Ryan Noble with a fine ball and the striker finished excellently.

But the hosts were level just before half-time when Cameron's cross evaded Joel Dixon in the Sunderland goal and nestled in the corner of the net.

The visitors reacted well, though, and went close to regaining the lead just after the break, Adam Mitchell crashing an effort against the bar.

But the claret and blue troops came back strongly and deservedly won the game with two fine goals.

First Johnson broke from midfield and hit a cracking drive into the corner.

And, as Sunderland searched for an equaliser, Johnson grabbed his second and the team's third with another drive from 20 yards.
