NextGen Series: Grealish relishing "dream" final after Sporting triumph
Jack Grealish couldn't hide his joy after Villa's triumph over Sporting Lisbon, insisting it is a "lifelong dream" to reach a European final with his boyhood club.
Match-winner Grealish described Friday night's semi-final win over the Portuguese giants as "the best feeling I've ever had in a football shirt".
The Solihull-born winger - a lifelong Villa supporter who has been on the club's books since the age of six - scored a crucial extra-time goal before laying on another for captain Samir Carruthers.
"It is a great feeling to get through to the final of what you could say is the Champions League of your own age group," said Grealish.
"It is a lifelong dream to even play for Villa but to get to a European final tops it all off.
"It is unbelievable. I've never seen anything like it and all the lads were absolutely buzzing.
"It was the best feeling I've ever had, not just in a Villa shirt but in a football shirt."
Grealish believes Villa's extra-time flourish was a testament to the fitness and determination of the players.
The 17-year-old was thrilled to have a hand in the second and third goals which clinched a spot in Monday's final against Chelsea.
"It just shows what we work on at the club," he said.
"We work on fitness and we had that extra bit of fitness over them.
"In the extra-time period we came out and turned it on again.
"I don't score much so it was great to score!
"With the third goal, I was going to take it myself but my legs were cramping up and I heard Samir roaring down my throat so I thought I'd just lay it off to him and he put it away."
Grealish was also boosted by the presence of his family, who flew out from Birmingham on the day of the game to cheer him on at Lake Como's Stadio Giueseppe Sinigaglia.
"My mom and dad have come out to see me which is great," he added.
"They've always supported me all of my life and they've travelled everywhere.
"For them to come out here is great and I hope they are proud of me that I scored."
