Boss Lambert on why Bodymoor is buzzing all the time

Paul Lambert insists the buoyant atmosphere among the players and staff has ensured there's not been a negative feeling at Bodymoor Heath all season.

Lambert says he strives to keep things upbeat at all times, even in the dark days following defeats.

But he says that's taken minimal effort because of the positive vibes in the squad and the feeling that things are progressing well for the future.

He says the performances over the past few weeks - especially since Newcastle, when the crowd hailed the team in spite of their marginal defeat - has only heightened that feel-good factor.

He said: "The wins against West Ham, Reading and QPR were really important and even against Manchester City we were really solid in that game and always in it.

"Certainly we limited their normal attacking prowess and all of these performances together emphasise why there has never been a negative feeling at Bodymoor Heath.

"When we come to work, the environment is vibrant and this has always been the case, even after a defeat.

"Our objective is always to keep the tempo up and it's important every day to bounce back, to get up and go again and we've maintained this approach all season.

"We have plenty of threat in the team and we believe we've always got a goal threat in us and that helps with confidence.

"We know this by the reaction of the crowd aswell - they can see it and they will us forward every step.

"It is also deeply appreciated by the players that they can rely on the fans and the way they are.

"For a number of weeks now, this has underpinned our performances, the levels which have been extremely high.

"You can go back to the second half against Newcastle and a really strong rally by the team which might have yielded something in the end.

"Then against Everton and Arsenal, big games at Goodison Park and The Emirates, we were so much in the ascendancy at various stages of those games, striving to win."

Lambert insists a "no fear" approach is vital now as Villa approach the final eight games of the season.

He added: "We need to have a very simple mindset. We can't go out there with any fear factor and we have to try to play our normal game.

"We will strive, as always, to express ourselves and to be creative and we will have that determination to see the game through."
