Villa are well on course to raising their £50,000 target for Acorns.

Villa held their second-annual Acorns Day on Saturday and it was a huge success with a host of fundraising activities taking place on the sunshine-filled afternoon.

The Villa News & Record sold really well, with £1 from the £4 cover price going to our official charity partner.

Raffle tickets were also sold throughout the morning and afternoon, with several amazing prizes up for grabs including a Fiat 500 car - kindly handed over by Guest Fiat in Wolverhampton, part of the Fiat Group, our official vehicle supplier - and a two-day trip to Legoland Windsor.

We had an eBay auction of several momentous items pre-match, including Gabby Agbonlahor's boots and Brad Guzan's goalkeeping top, which sold immensely well.

There was a family funday in the Indoor Academy, with all entry proceeds heading to Acorns.

Staff at Villa Park were heavily involved in the run-up to the day too, with cake sales, raffles and dressing down days taking place.

Those in marketing and communications even auctioned off their services for a day to clients!

There were also collection points around the stadium while fans got texting on their mobiles to donate.

You can still get involved even now by texting AVFC12 £3 to 70070.

Match sponsors Beaver Metals agreed to donate £50 for every goal scored on the day - so £250 was raised after the 3-2 win.

Now, after the match, all the signed shirts belonging to the players are being sold on eBay.

Goal hero Andi Weimann has already achieved 41 bids, with his top currently available from £500 while Brad Guzan's shirt is on £200.

Make sure you get your bids in.

Chief Executive Paul Faulkner said: "We'd like to thank all of our fans, players and staff for making our second Acorns Day even more memorable than the first.

"It was a thrilling game and a fantastic result as we won for the second successive year on Acorns Day and I am immensely proud of all of the fundraising efforts that have been undertaken to raise money for this wonderful charity.

"We'll know the final total early next week once the shirt auction has concluded, so we still have time to raise even more money.

"But at this stage I am hopeful that we are going to smash the amount we raised last year and be able to make a significantly telling difference to the lives of the children and their families that Acorns looks after.

"The work Villa does in the local community is something that has been at the heart of our great club since it was founded in 1874 and Acorns Day has again allowed everyone associated with Villa to demonstrate that ethos is very much alive and well today."
