Villa Ladies FA Cup preview: Hunt: We have intensity and focus

Brown

Joe Hunt believes Villa Ladies have the right "intensity and focus" ahead of the mammoth FA Cup clash with Liverpool Ladies on Sunday.

Villa Ladies take on the Super League outfit at Boldmere St Michael's, kick-off 2pm.

Hunt has presided over training this week in the run-up to the match and he says it's been unbelievable.

He wants his team to show their competitive edge and stick to their game plan against the Merseyside outfit.

He said: "The ladies have been extremely focused this week in training. The intensity was frightening at some points.

"I think this is for three reasons. The first is they were all hurt by our performance at Watford. They know it wasn't the Aston Villa that have performed so well over the last few months.

"Second, I think the international break has really helped us. There was a buzz about training, a competitive edge that we hadn't seen for a while.

"Third, the FA Cup is a huge competition and all the girls are eager to play in it.

"We are all looking forward to the game. The ladies have prepared well and now they need to get out on the pitch and execute the game plan."

Dani Petrovic looks set to lead the team out in the last sixteen encounter, before her two-game ban kicks-in.

Hunt knows she will be influential in the game because of her class, courage and experience.

He continued: "Dani has been at the top of her game lately and I know she'll be massive for us on Sunday.

"She is a true leader, a warrior on the pitch. But she is complemented well with the players around her.

"Jade Richards is pure class - she has pace and power mixed with elegance and grace. Some of the passes she hits are stunning. I'm sure I could put her in the midfield if I needed to.

"In front of those two we have our 'enforcer' in Tash Merritt. She screens the defence for the team and will rotate with Jade or Pet if they step out of the defensive line. She is a very intelligent player."

In team news, winger Kelly Clark returns after a hiatus from action.

He added: "Kelly has been back in the group which is huge for us. All of a sudden I now have three wingers back to help out the terrific Emma Follis, who is having a sensational season.

"We've had to get through the past few games playing Maddy Cusack out on the left. She did a great job but she is a player who thrives in the middle of the park, rampaging all over, rather than restricted to one side of the pitch."

Squad: Courtney, Cooper, Lowe, Vaughan, Mannion, Petrovic, Richards, Moran, Merritt, Stringer, Jones, Fergusson, Clarke, Follis, Gibson, Davies.
