Westwood: Don't underestimate Bannan's battling qualities in run-in
Westwood loves Bannan's central class but thinks his battling qualities are greatly underestimated.
While Bannan sprayed several superb passes against Reading, he misplaced others - but was quick to retrieve the ball with immediate tackles.
That's the element of Bannan's game that Westwood believes goes unnoticed - and should be appreciated more.
He said: "Baz is a quality footballer. He's amazing in training. He's so sharp you just can't get near him. He's so quick and nimble.
"But when you've got the ball he's always nipping around your ankles hunting for it back.
"A lot has been said about Baz's quality in possession and it's there for all to see but he works his socks off throughout the 90 minutes.
"He's chasing, he's blocking, he's harrying. He's a real team player."
Westwood certainly admires Bannan's class on the ball and thinks this is down to his grounding with the claret and blue academy.
He added: "Baz is so good technically. I think the academies we've both been at have really helped us.
"I was at Crewe since I was six and I imagine Baz has been with the academy here from a young lad too. You get taught in the right way and you develop good habits which stand you in good stead as you develop and move up the age ladder.
"That stands you in good stead when you're older.
"But he's fantastic. He has played in the Barclays Premier League for a number of years now and he's still only a young lad. I'm sure there are plenty of great years ahead of him."
