Thursday media watch [07.03.13 PM]: More Royals previews
Express and Star: Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar was today hopeful he will recover from a calf injury in time to feature in crunch back-to-back matches against fellow strugglers Reading and Queens Park Rangers. The Dutch centre-back has missed defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City, but is desperate to return for the next two fixtures which could be significant in the bid to beat the drop.
ClubCall: Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert insists he hasn't set his side a survival points target but is confident they can avoid the drop. Villa are currently 18th in the Premier League table with 10 games remaining, although only goal difference separates them from 17th-placed Wigan.
ESPN: Fabian Delph is driven to save Aston Villa from relegation in order to thank owner Randy Lerner for not showing him the door at the club. Lerner spent £6 million to lure Delph to Villa Park from Leeds United in 2009, but the investment in the England Under-21 international has returned just 36 appearances because of a string of serious injuries.
TEAMtalk: On-loan Rotherham duo Courtney Cameron and Jordan Slew have returned to their respective parent clubs. Cameron, 20, has been at the New York Stadium since mid-November and scored one goal in 18 games, but is now back at Aston Villa after his deal ended.
Setanta Sports: Paul Lambert has been encouraged by Aston Villa's sheer will to win and believes the same attitude will help the club as their battle for Premier League survival. Although Villa have lost three of their last five matches, performances have improved since the turn of the year, but late goals against West Brom, Everton and Arsenal have proved costly.
Sky Sports: Simon Dawkins admits he would be willing to stay on at Aston Villa next season, if Tottenham Hotspur agree to extend his loan agreement. The 25-year-old forward is due to spend the remainder of the 2012/13 campaign with Villa, having linked up with the Premier League strugglers in January.
