Mother's Day at Villa Park: Albrighton - Don't forget to treat your mum

Marc Albrighton admits his mum has been a source of comfort for him during his injury lay-off.

As we celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday, Albrighton paid special tribute to his mum for her support during his time on the sidelines - and all the hours she's put into following him in football since he was a boy.

He said: "I have the best mum in the world. She's great with my football. She comes to support me every game no matter where it is.

"Then off the field she keeps my feet firmly on the ground. She will keep my head out of the clouds and make sure I am concentrating on my football.

"She followed me everywhere when I was younger. She was great, along with my dad.

"When I was in the U9s, she'd be at Bristol City away on a freezing cold November morning with a 10am kick-off. She'd be there supporting me. That makes you so determined.

"Now she will come and watch me at Old Trafford against Man Utd. But I know it's not because it's Old Trafford. She's there through the good times and the bad times.

"She's been there for me during my time injured too, along with my girlfriend and young daughter. Family is so important and they have been great.

"She keeps me grounded too. There's no chance of me getting above my station with my mum around. She will put me in my place."

Albrighton also reminisced about his famous Holte End goal in the 2-2 draw with Man Utd from two seasons ago - and the role his mum played on the day.

He added: "I scored the goal and I thought that was the best feeling I could have.

"Then I walked up to the players lounge after the match and my mate told me my mum had burst into tears when I scored. That actually was a better feeling than when I actually scored the goal itself.

"I got two great moments all rolled into one."
