Villa v Man City: Carew hails "very talented new generation"
John Carew has hailed Villa's "very talented new generation" on the eve of the Man City encounter.
Hitman Carew is confident Paul Lambert's emerging team will flourish in the top-flight next season as he prays for safety for the team this term.
Carew has seen Villa several times, including the 3-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
He insists Lambert's promising team can beat anyone on their day.
The former No.10 believes they will prosper in the coming weeks, months and years ahead.
He told the Sky Sports 'Goals on Sunday' team: "They have big potential. They are very talented.
"When they are at their best, they can beat any team. Look at Liverpool at Anfield.
"Some of them were in the reserve team when I was there. They were the future of the team and they had to come up at one point.
"They have real quality. It's the new generation for the club. This is the period where they become men. That's the hard period for them.
"It would be sad if they went down. They still have hope. Villa are my team and I hope they stay up.
"It's too big a team to go down. I hope they manage to get through this.
"That's the most important thing this season and then next season it will be much better."
Carew has been impressed with the level of support coming from the terraces in what has been a tough season to date.
He added: "It's not easy but at the same time the fans are showing the team plenty of patience and the manager too."
