Ajax U19 1-2 Villa U19: Burns hails professionalism after win
Steve Burns paid tribute to the professionalism of Villa's young guns after their heroics against last season's NextGen Series runners-up Ajax.
Villa clinched a quarter-final spot after claiming another major scalp in the prestigious European U19 competition.
Assistant academy manager Burns says the boys in claret and blue were good value for their 2-1 victory after outperforming the Dutch giants in all areas of the pitch.
Goals from Michael Drennan and Brad Lewis secured Villa's passage in to the last eight of the tournament.
It means the club have now reached the quarter-final stage two years in a row.
"It was an excellent, professional team performance," said Burns.
"The coaches got everything spot on tactically, the players worked their socks off and at times we made them look extremely ordinary.
"We probably had the better chances overall and then we scored again from a second phase set piece and managed to see the game out.
"It was a really good professional away display and fully deserved.
"Reaching the quarter-finals again is excellent and it is a testament to the way the players have applied themselves."
Villa must wait to learn their quarter-final opponents after becoming the first team to advance from the first knockout round.
The other last 16 fixtures are Paris St Germain v Tottenham, Barcelona v Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon v Liverpool, CSKA Moscow v PSV Eindhoven, defending champions Inter Milan v Arsenal, Olympiacos v Anderlecht and Juventus v Rosenborg.
