Villa Ladies 4-2 Copsewood Ladies report: Jones makes debut
Chloe Jones made her debut as Villa Ladies secured their County Cup semi-final place courtesy of a 4-2 win over Copsewood Ladies.
Jones played the full 90 minutes in her first outing since October 2012 and impressed greatly.
In fact, she almost scored within the first few minutes but a bullet header went just over.
But boss Joe Hunt was pleased with her contribution and believes there's much more to come from the dynamic central midfielder in the coming weeks.
Villa Ladies went in one-up at the break, Follis bursting away from the away defence following a terrific pass from Tash Merritt to slot home calmly and coolly.
Follis was upended in the box soon after the break after wondrous wing play and Davies smashed home the second from the spot.
Copsewood were thrown a lifeline when confusion in the box presented them with a goal.
But Villa Ladies restored the two-goal advantage thirty second later, Gibson glancing home a header.
Copsewood remarkably came back again to reduce the deficit once more but Gibson put the tie beyond doubt in the closing minutes with a close-range tap-in.
Boss Hunt said: "In reality, it was a frustrating day. We had good intentions but poor execution.
"If we'd scored early in the game, when Natalie and Chloe had chances, the game might have been different.
"But, after twenty minutes, we became flat and predictable.
"We gave Copsewood too much time and space which gave them belief.
"We were better after the break but we gave away two awful goals.
"Maddy made a big difference for us when she came on. She's very determined and has a very direct way of playing. Her energy drives the team on, even from the unusual position of left wing!
"Chloe made her debut and we got her the ball on numerous occasions. She linked very well with Abbeyleigh and Natalie.
"It would've been a dream debut if she'd scored in the first few minutes. But she got a good ninety minutes under her belt which was a huge plus point, considering she hasn't played a competitive game for a long time.
"We won the game today which was the main thing. We will play better, I have no doubts about that.
"We now have a massive game away at Coventry on Thursday in the quarter-final of the League Cup. We will be ready for it."
The win over Copsewood, ironically, gives Villa Ladies a County Cup semi-final tie with Coventry, too.
Villa: Courtney, Cooper, Lowe, Moran, Petrovic, Vaughan, Follis, Stringer, Gibson, Jones, Crackle. Subs: Richards, Merritt, Davies, Cusack.
