Vlaar: Win over West Ham was crucial - but now we want more
Ron Vlaar hopes the victory over West Ham is just the start of Villa's revival, insisting: "It is only one win and we want more."
Vlaar admits the maximum haul against the Hammers provided the whole club with a much-needed lift.
But he insists the claret and blues must kick on and use the result as a springboard to move away from the lower echelons of the Barclays Premier League.
"It was big - we realise that for ourselves and for the fans and every employee at Villa because we needed this so badly and it finally happened," said the skipper.
"We have to go on. It is only one win and we want more. We have to look forward to the next game.
"Everybody was very happy and you could feel the relief in the stadium and in the dressing room."
Vlaar reckons Villa's luck turned against West Ham after they survived a stoppage-time onslaught to earn 2-1 verdict.
It was a perfect tonic for Paul Lambert's team, who have let leads slip late on against Swansea, West Brom and Everton since the turn of the year.
"We really deserved the win," added Vlaar.
"The luck finally came on our side so it was really good.
"It was a great and very important win for us.
"It was almost there a couple of times in the weeks before and finally it happened so it was great for us."
Villa are without a game this weekend but Vlaar says the players are already eager to return to action.
"If you win you want to go straight in to the next game but if you lose as well you want to make things right," he added.
"We have no game this weekend and we have to move forward to the next game now."
