Sunderland U21 v Villa U21: Cowans urges players to kick on
Gordon Cowans has challenged his Villa side to put together a run of victories in the Barclays U21 Premier League as they prepare to face Sunderland this afternoon.
The boys in claret and blue go into the clash at the Academy of Light on the back of their first win of 2013 against Blackburn Rovers last week.
And coach Cowans insists it is time for his team to kick on and show consistency.
"Just to get the win and to get back on track was nice," he said.
"I was pleased with everyone's performance and it is just a case of kicking on now and keeping that consistency."
Cowans has been impressed by the form of attacking trio Alfie Crooks, Callum Robinson and Jack Grealish, who were all instrumental in the 2-0 success over Blackburn at Hinckley.
Crooks and Robinson were both on target, while Grealish produced some sublime pieces of skill on the flanks.
"I am delighted for Alfie because he has been out injured for a long while and he has got the opportunity to prove himself now," added Cowans.
"Callum is a very talented player who can cause anyone problems.
"He has been on fire in training and Jack Grealish has been excellent too.
"Jack's balance is fantastic. He is two-footed and when he gets at people he can go past them so comfortably."
