New signing Dawkins: I feel blessed to be playing at Villa
Simon Dawkins says he feels "blessed" to be given the chance to play at Villa.
Dawkins suffered a knee injury five years ago which seriously threatened his career.
But he came through the bleakest moment of his career.
Dawkins was released by Tottenham before rejoining them.
That injury woe shaped his personality and now he relishes every minute, every moment and every match.
Instead of looking back pessimistically at that football fight he waged, he uses it to improve his performances.
He said: "I think my battle back from injury helps me.
"I am always thinking in my mind about what I've been through. It was difficult, hard times, but I came through it.
"Every time I enter the pitch I feel really blessed. Now I'm blessed to be playing at Villa. I realise where I have come from and I appreciate where I am and where I am going.
"It has made me strong mentally too. That battle back enhanced my desire, determination and belief. I think those qualities will stand me in good stead for this battle at Villa.
"That battle back from injury will always be with me and I can use it in a positive way as I look to get better and better.
"People doubt you too when you have had injuries so you're more focused on performing every single week because of that.
"Every time I go on the pitch I give it absolutely everything and that's what I will be doing at Villa.
"It's just great, fantastic to be here. Villa are a big Premier League team and I'll be playing on the Premier League stage for them.
"I want to show people what I can do. It's a massive, massive team. Look at the training facilities. You can gauge a lot from that."
