El Ahmadi: Sylla's strength will be an asset in midfield

Brown

Karim El Ahmadi has hailed the deadline-day capture of Yacouba Sylla, insisting the new midfielder's strength in the central ground will be an asset for the team.

El Ahmadi trained with Sylla on Friday on the eve of the Everton clash and was delighted with what he saw.

El Ahmadi was impressed with Sylla's powerful presence on the training field and his brief cameo debut at Goodison Park.

He said: "Yacouba is the sort of player we need in this situation.

"He's a strong guy and a good player. He's more than welcome.

"It will be good for the team to have that competition in central midfield.

"I think both new signings are players we need at this moment in time.

"I think Yacouba is a good player.

"I faced him directly in some tackles in training and you can see he is a good player.

"He's a strong guy too and that is something we need."

El Ahmadi was thrilled to be back in the team for the 3-3 draw after returning from African Cup of Nations duty with Morocco.

Despite the late leveller, El Ahmadi was adamant that Villa will take a lot of positives from the display as they eye the match with West Ham on Sunday.

He added: "It was a nice game. We started very well. We pressed them from the very first minute and didn't let them play.

"That was very important because if you let Everton play, they are very good.

"When you're winning 3-1, you cannot give it away. However, teams that come here have a hard time but we played a very good game.

"We scored three very good goals, the third in particular was very nice.

"I think the confidence is going to grow after this game. Now it's West Ham and we have to get three points.

"We have to take confidence from this game because it's tough to come here and play like we did.

"We have to be positive after this game because if you look back to the game against Everton at Villa Park they were much better than us.

"I think in the game at Goodison Park we pressed them and they did not have it as easy as they did in the first game.

"I think we can have some confidence about this game for the visit of West Ham.

"As a team we have grown. We just need some points and I have the belief we can get those points."
