FA Cup match report: Ipswich Ladies 0-2 Villa Ladies
Villa Ladies made it through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable win over Ipswich Ladies.
Villa Ladies were dealt pre-match blows, goalkeeper Megan Walsh and marauding midfielder Sherry McCue ruled out through injury while fab forward Bethan Merrick also failed a late fitness test on the eve of the game.
But this didn't stop Villa Ladies dominating the game from start to finish as they eased their way through.
They opened the scoring in the 25th minute as the ladies in lime took a foothold.
Fergusson, who had made a darting run from the left wing, controlled the ball on the six-yard box with her back to goal before cheekily backheeling it home.
Villa Ladies settled the tie in the 75th minute.
Aoife Mannion produced a great centre from the right wing and the ball was met with a powerful header by sub Davies.
It thundered past the Ipswich Ladies keeper to make the game safe.
Boss Hunt said: "The most pleasing thing about the game was getting into the next round.
"You could tell we hadn't had a competitive game for over a month. Our intentions were good but our execution was extremely poor.
"The game should've been over after 20 minutes. We had so many chances and opportunities but just couldn't score.
"This gave Ipswich encouragement and, to be fair to them, they defended exceptionally well, especially from our set pieces.
"We are now starting to pick up some injuries which is not good. Bethan failed a late test on her ankle, Sherry got injured with England a few weeks ago and Livy came off after scoring a fabulous goal.
"I've gone from having six wingers to only one recognised winger.
"But I'm hopeful several others will be in contention next weekend."
Villa face Preston North End at home in round four.
