Willing Westwood showing kind-hearted side for charity
Ashley Westwood doesn't like to give the ball away - unless it's for charity.
Westwood may be a Barclays Premier League midfielder but he has not forgotten his roots.
Friend Steve Phillips, goalkeeper with former club Crewe, is an avid fundraiser, collecting hundreds of thousands of pounds over ten years.
He has helped serving soldiers, couples who have lost still-born children, cancer sufferers and a young girl called Imogen, who was tragically diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The 'Immy Shimmy' appeal made sure she packed as much fun into her life as she possibly could.
Now Phillips has elected to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, with his decision brought about after hearing of Stan Petrov's diagnosis.
Phillips will be taking part in a bike ride from London to Paris on June 6, alongside Pedal for Petrov rider Geoff Thomas to collect funds for the charity.
There will also be a host of auctions on Twitter and Westwood is planning to donate a plethora of items such as boots and shirts for the cause.
Phillips is also donating money to children's charity 'Caudwell Children'.
Westwood said: "I couldn't be happier to help Steve out.
"He's a great guy doing magnificent charity work and to just lend a hand is a delight.
"I just donate items to help him raise as much money as he can. Nick Powell from Man Utd, who was with us at Crewe, is doing the same.
"Steve is doing all the hard work - we're just doing our bit behind-the-scenes.
"Playing football every day is fantastic but helping out in charity work is very rewarding.
"I think it's important for professional footballers like myself - who can make a difference - to help out with things like this.
"I never thought - coming through as a young lad from Crewe - that anyone would be interested in buying my boots or my shirts. Now they are, I hope we can raise as much money as we can!
"Steve has been brilliant. He's an inspiration. And the more I can help, the better!
"It's great that the latest fundraising is going to Lymphoma and Leukaemia Research too because of the battle our captain Stan Petrov is fighting at the moment.
"I've never played with Stan but you can feel his influence at the training ground. It's great to see him when he comes to visit. He's a warm man and his stories are brilliant!
"Let's hope Steve raises plenty of money for this worthwhile charity."
