The 25-year-old winger suffered a knee injury five years ago which seriously threatened his career. Self-belief and hard work sustained him through the bleakest period after he had been released by Spurs and he was re-signed in March 2011 before being loaned to San Jose. Now he is determined to make the most of his opportunity in the Premier League having contributed eight goals and starred on the wing in San Jose's record-breaking campaign in which they set a new regular-season mark for goals scored and secured the highest points total before being knocked out in the play-offs. "I worked for two years to get over my injury and regain my fitness and now I'm really motivated to make the most of this opportunity at Villa," said Dawkins whose squad number will be 24. "Tottenham have been great with me and the past two seasons with San Jose have really kick-started my career. I never lost my belief and everything I've been through has made me stronger mentally as a player and as a person. "I'm really focussed on what I need to do for the rest of this season and I'm looking forward to training with my new team-mates ahead of a big game against Everton this weekend."
