Wednesday media watch [09.01.13 PM]: Lambert staying positive

BBC Sport: Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert insisted his team can still reach the Capital One Cup final despite a shock semi-final first-leg defeat at Bradford. The League Two club beat their Premier League opponents 3-1 at Valley Parade. But Lambert said: "We're still in the tie, absolutely. It'll be a different game at home. It's only half time."

Clubcall: Paul Lambert was disappointed with his Villa players' defending but insisted their Capital One Cup semi with Bradford is far from over. Villa, who have won only one of their last seven league matches, were blown away by a fine Bradford performance at Valley Parade, leaving them with it all to do back at Villa Park.

Express & Star: Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert today claimed his side are "still in the tie" against Bradford City despite a disastrous first leg defeat in the Capital One Cup semi-final. The claret and blues must overturn a 3-1 deficit in the return leg at Villa Park on January 22 after they were humbled by the League Two outfit at Valley Parade.

London Evening Standard: Bradford Cup hero Rory McArdle today claimed Aston Villa remain favourites to reach the final despite a shock defeat against the League Two club. McArdle headed the second goal ofBradford's pulsating Capital One Cup semi-final first-leg win at Valley Parade but admits the struggling Premier League club will be expected to overturn the two-goal deficit.

Sky Sports: Bradford City defender Rory McArdle believes Aston Villa remain favourites to take victory in their Capital One Cup semi-final despite the Bantams' 3-1 win in Tuesday's first leg. The 25-year-old scored the second of Bradford's goals at the Coral Windows Stadium, and helped the League Two side to come within reach of a Cup showdown with Chelsea or Swansea. While McArdle believes Villa are still firm favourites to win the semi-final tie in two weeks, he said his Bradford side will be looking to add to their goal tally at Villa Park.

BBC Sport: Bradford goalkeeper Matt Duke said the 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the League Cup semi-final first leg felt "unreal". The 35-year-old pulled off a string of saves as the League Two side recorded a famous victory at Valley Parade.

Best of the Rest

BBC Sport: Swansea City have a golden chance of making history in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup, according to winger Nathan Dyer. The Swans face a first leg against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, with Dyer itching for a chance to play in a Wembley cup final.

Sky Sports: Andrea Pirlo believes Chelsea would be foolish to allow fellow midfielder Frank Lampard to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. The England international will be out of contract this summer with a move to Italy mooted amid reports Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus could be interested in signing him.

BBC Sport: David Beckham is considering offers from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and South America, but will base his family in London wherever he ends up. The former England captain has been living in Los Angeles since 2007 but will move after leaving LA Galaxy.

Sky Sports: Andre Villas-Boas says he is on the way to achieving his targets at Tottenham Hotspur and has criticised former club Chelsea for not working to a long-term project.
