Villa 2-1 Ipswich: Given - We showed character and togetherness
Shay Given hailed Villa's "character and togetherness" after they fought back to see off Ipswich in the FA Cup.
Given replaced Brad Guzan in goal for the third round victory and played his part by making several crucial saves.
The Irish custodian was pleased with his own contribution but felt the team as a whole showed great courage and unity.
"Any win is important and we were delighted with the victory," he said.
"As a team we were delighted to come back from a goal down and we showed a lot of character and togetherness so we are really happy.
"The most important thing for me is the team and the result but when called upon I had to make a couple of saves.
"Thankfully I made them and the one in the second half was probably the best one.
"A couple of minutes later we went up and scored the second goal so it was important.
"It is nice to contribute to the performance.
"I thought the goals were great from Darren and Andi and they deserved great credit for that.
"We were disappointed with the goal we gave away - it was a weak goal.
"It is well documented that we are a young side but you learn from your mistakes."
Given was an FA Cup finalist on two occasions with Newcastle and he would love another extended run in the competition with Villa.
"When I was at Newcastle I went to two FA Cup finals and they are great memories in my career," he added.
"It would be great to go back there again. It is one of the most famous competitions in world football and we wanted to win here and we showed that from the way we performed."
