Villa Ladies: Hunt confident team can cope as Wilkinson joins Blues
Boss Joe Hunt is confident Villa Ladies can deal with the loss of star striker Katie Wilkinson.
Wilkinson joined Birmingham City Ladies during the festive period, electing to end a ten-year association with the claret and blues in favour of Super League football.
Hunt said: "We haven't got Katie anymore. She felt she needed a new challenge after being at Villa for nearly a decade, progressing through our centre of excellence to be a leading scorer this season.
"It's a shame as we put a lot of work and support into Katie over the years. To be fair to Katie, she produced the goods for the club.
"We were powerless to keep her as it was her decision. In the National Division, which we're in, the players are registered to the clubs but are not contracted. Therefore other clubs can put a request in to talk to players.
"I'm fortunate enough to have a big squad, though, and players who are in good form in that position.
"Gibbo came into the team when Katie was injured before the break and looked really sharp, linking the team together and managing to score four goals in three games.
"We also have Carly who has had a good rest so should come back firing on all cylinders!
"In addition Livy can play there and gives us a different dimension with her pace and clever movement."
Villa face Cardiff away on Sunday after a two-week break from action. They lie fourth in the division.
